Mute Publishing has initiated an API project advocating for the co-development an ArtAPI. This will aid with the long term structuring of related content helping a wide variety of artistic fields. Our initial focus is video and publishing distribution systems; educational, contextual, events, localisation, etc
In its simplest form this intends to enable organisations' websites to present structured, machine readable outputs of their various offerings so that Web 2.0 services can pick up or interact with existing data.
Additionally the ArtAPI provides a library index of content enabling distributed networks as opposed to the ascendant centralising tendencies, like Google Search, YouTube or FaceBook.
The result of this would be that third party services could sell organisations' ticketed events, include them in calendars, distribute their publications, update their product lists, etc. - generally, to better know who and where these organisations are.
With the ArtAPI project Mute looks to act as an research and advocacy group for open and easy to implement versions of an ArtAPI.
